Mother is suffering severe Dementia, and I am right smack in the middle of it. It is a painful process, but that does not mean that I won't be there for her. Dementia means she does not always know that I am her daughter. She does not always know where she is, or what day it is. But that is not the way I want the world to remember her, so do I keep her locked up, or let her go out into the world. How do I maintain her integrity without keeping her away from anyone who does not love her?
